Community Foundation Announces New Scholarship Program

Marlin U. Zimmerman, Principal of Easton High School, 1938-1952
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (EASTON-March 7, 2011)
The Mid-Shore Community Foundation announced a new Pooled Scholarship Application Program that will begin taking applications this spring for the upcoming 2011- 2012 Academic Year. Students can submit a single application for the 4 scholarships in the program. In future years, the Foundation expects to add more of the 23 individual scholarships currently offered through MSCF to the pooled application process, as well as any new scholarships that come to the Foundation each year.
Alice Bower, board member and chair of the Grants Committee of MSCF noted, “This is a significant initiative for the Foundation that should greatly improve access to scholarships offered through MSCF and better serve our donors who make these scholarships possible.”
The Pooled Application Program includes the Austin and Martha Steele scholarship for graduating seniors from public high schools in each of the 5 Mid-Shore counties; the Dorchester Heritage Museum/Dale Price Scholarship for graduating seniors at Cambridge/South Dorchester High School; the Robert F. Walls Memorial Scholarship for residents of Caroline County; and the new Marlin U. Zimmerman Scholarship for graduating seniors at Easton High School.
The late Marlin Zimmerman established the Zimmerman scholarship to honor his father who was the principal of Easton High School from 1938-1952. This need-based scholarship for prospective graduates of Easton High School committed to a career in education can be renewed for up to 4 years.
Students must apply directly to the Mid-Shore Community Foundation no later than April 15, 2011. Applications are available in the guidance offices of public high schools throughout the Mid-Shore and are also available online at www.mscf.org. A Scholarship Committee at MSCF will review the applications and select the recipients consistent with the criteria established by the donors. The scholarship recipients will be announced on May 15, 2011.
Detailed information on the scholarships included within this program, as well as the other 19 scholarships available through MSCF can be found on the Foundation’s website. For more information, contact Robbin Hill (410-820-8175, ext 103; rhill@mscf.org
