FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (EASTON-November 23, 2011)

Thanks to a generous grant from the Grayce B. Kerr Fund, the Mid-Shore Community Foundation has opened a resource center for nonprofits in the five-county region.  The Resource Center is located in the Bullitt House in downtown Easton which is otherwise home to the Foundation and to the Women & Girls Fund for the Mid-Shore.

The grant enabled the Mid-Shore Community Foundation to install new computer workstations in the Resource Center and to upgrade the computer infrastructure to include a new security firewall and operating system that allows for an expanded wireless network.  John Valliant, President of the Grayce B. Kerr Fund, explains the importance of the Center: “This is a significant step in making the Mid-Shore Community Foundation not only a center for nonprofit funding, but also the go-to resource for all the needs of the nonprofit community.”

The Nonprofit Resource Center provides access to the Foundation Center’s Foundation Directory Online which will make it possible for local nonprofits to research potential funding opportunities at the Bullitt House.  The Directory is the gold standard for online grants research.  It is updated weekly and provides the most accurate details available on U.S. funders and their grants. The Mid-Shore Community Foundation pays the subscription fee for this service in the Mid-Shore region.

The Resource Center will also host webinars offered through the Council on Foundations and other providers.  In addition, the Center will include such publications as the Chronicle of Philanthropy, IRS publications on nonprofits and charity law, as well as other resources related to the mission and work of community nonprofits.

The MSCF Nonprofit Resource Center will continue to offer workshops throughout the year on topics such as nonprofit governance, planned giving programs, and grant writing.  Those workshops will be held throughout the region at locations convenient to nonprofits in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties.
