The Mid-Shore Community Foundation (MSCF) has announced that Barbara Lane is their new director of donor relations. Lane is the former executive director of the United Fund of Talbot County and is no stranger to community organizations.

Although retired for over 2 years she has kept involved with the community and currently sits on the boards of the Talbot County Free Library, the Women & Girls’ Fund, and the Tred Avon Yacht Club. She also volunteers for the United Fund of Talbot County, the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay, and as a Character Counts! coach for 4th grade at Easton Elementary.

Her responsibilities at the MSCF will include expanding the foundation’s relationships with their current donors, maintaining ongoing relationships with private and corporate partners, asset development, presentations and public relations.

“I was getting restless in retirement,” says Lane. “I think the MSCF is an incredible resource for our community, providing guidance to individuals to link their resources with the needs of our area while creating a long term impact.”

MSCF was established in 1992 and has grown to assets of over $30 million and currently represents over 150 funds. Through the pooling of these funds and access to highly qualified investment managers, MSCF is positioned to achieve outstanding annual investment returns, consistent with the protection of principal. This makes it one of the largest grant makers in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties. Last year the MSCF made grants totaling over $688,000 to over 170 organizations.

To date, 51 non-profits from the mid shore area have created agency endowment funds with the MSCF through fundraising and planned giving. The MSCF recognizes the importance of strong non-profit organizations serving the community and has helped donors create charitable gift annuities for their agency endowment funds. Today, the MSCF holds 15 charitable gift annuities representing $2.5 million.

Charlie Capute, president of the MSCF is “pleased to have Barbara on board. Her past experience will be put to good use at the Foundation and will help propel us forward and help strengthen our ties with all five counties, their needs and our collective resources.”
